How to install RAC product

Help | How to install RAC product

Installation files are in section Download.
After downloading the installators please install the RAC Client and Server.
What should be installed where is described below or please see also the figures:

Direct connection
Connection through router
VPC Connection (operating computer without public IP address)
Connection through HTTP tunel

The remote computer

  • On the computer that you want to control remotely install:
    • RAC Server, usage with license fee
    We recommend:
    • Install:
      • Install RAC Server:
        • Under the Administrator Authorization
        • As a system service to allow log on to system
      • Reinstallation:
        • If you need to reinstall the RAC Server during the trial period, do not do uninstall, just install the RAC Server again
      • Automatic update:
        • After installation the automatic update is automatically on and set to check
a new version on Tuesday and Thursday at 12 o'clock.
The automatic update can also be started from menu Help.

The computer that will be used to control other computers remotely

  • On the computer that will be used to control computers remotely install:
    • RAC Client, is free
    • RAC Server, only in case that the server installation is done remotely
    • XZL Video Compressor - video codec for recording, does not need to be installed if you will no use
the Recording service. For the Recording service even some other pre-installed video codecs may be used.

    We recommend:
    • After the installation:
    • Doing the installation into a predefined folder of the installation wizard, especially in case that
the RAC Server installation is done remotely

  • Computer control in local network (Intranet):

    • Gate FireWall:
      • If on the remote computer the Windows® Firewall Gate is switched on, create an exception for the program RACs.exe
or for TCP port 8600 and for switched HTTP tunnel server
the exception for TCP port 80, 8080 or 443.
The exceptions can be created directly in the installation wizard or in the setting of the RAC Server on the tab Exceptions in Firewall gate of Windows® system.
If you use another or different firewall gate create the exceptions also in this firewall gate.
    • After the RAC Server is installed create minimally one user account for remote access,
by clicking on menu Setting on the command User Account Settings ( How to add an account Open in a new window )
    • In local network we recommend to set a static IP address
  • Computer control via Internet:

    • Operating the computer without public or with dynamically assigned IP address:

      • you can use free VPC service (we recommend), which allows connecting of the computer without public or static IP address. More information about VPC ( How to control computers without public IP address through VPC Open in a new window ).
Another option is to use programs or services allowing creation of the virtual private network (VPN) or you may use the connection through the HTTP tunnel that helps to solve this problem in certain instances.
    • Operating the computer with public IP address:

    • Operating the computer which is connected to Internet through router which has public IP address:

      • If you are connecting to a computer that is connected through router to the Internet and that has a public IP address ( What is a public and non-public IP address Open in a new window ), it is necessary to redirect the router communication from TCP port 8600 to one local computer using the service NAT (Network Address Translation, Port Forwarding, Virtual Server) .
Using the service Connection Through Server it is possible to use the redirected communication to access other local computers as well ( How to connect through server (Router) Open in a new window ).
If you forward the communication from the TCP port 8600 or other ports, please switch DHCP off in the local network or set DHCP so that the computers IP addresses are fixed.
If you have any troubles with the setting, please contact the technical support of the router manufacturer or your Internet provider.

Frequent faults or defects during installation and setting

  • Connection Through Router:
    • TCP port 8600 is not redirected to router ( How to connect through server (Router) Open in a new window )
    • IP addresses in the remote network are not fixed, the redirection of the TCP port to router does not work,
      invalid IP address is used.
Switch off DHCP in the local network or set DHCP so that the IP addresses of computers are unchangeable (fixed).
  • The exception in the Windows® Firewall Gate not created
  • The exception in another Firewall Gate not created,
e.g. some antivirus programs or security programs have an integrated
Firewall Gate that is already preinstalled without you even knowing it
  • When changing the IP address of a remote computer (new computer, new operation system installation, new network card etc.),
the change of settings of the redirected TCP port to router is not made to the new IP address
  • When changing the TCP port of the RAC Server, the TCP port in the properties of connection in RAC Client is not changed
  • Confusing the local or unpublic IP address with the public IP address ( What is a public and non-public IP address Open in a new window )
  • Installing RAC Server under the user who does not have the full rights for software installation
  • The account for accessing the RAC Server is not created ( How to add an account Open in a new window )
  • IP address of the computer is dynamic, not static.
At present the computer already uses a different IP address.
In the local network we recommend setting a static IP address.
In extensive networks we recommend you connect to your own VPC server.
On the Internet we recommend you connect to computers through a VPC server.
  • When connecting to the computer in the local network, a local IP address is not entered.
If the remote computer is connected to another network, it can have another IP address.
This IP address cannot be used in the local network.
